About This Location

Nestled in the charming town of Deep River, Connecticut, the Olson's Covered Bridges are a delightful pair of covered bridges that exude timeless charm. Though they may appear quite similar at first glance, these two bridges have unique stories to tell, as they were constructed in different decades. Located on the private compound at 21 Winthrop Road, they remain hidden from the public eye but can still be admired from the roadside and a nearby park.

Olson's Covered Bridge #1 takes center stage within the private compound of Deep River. The expansive property boasts a grand mansion, multiple garages, a guest house, and several other buildings. Meandering ponds add to the scenic beauty of the surroundings. This bridge, dating back to 1993, serves as a picturesque link between the mansion and the guest house, spanning a small pond outlet. It not only accommodates the property owner's vehicles but also provides a charming walkway. The bridge extends gracefully for 15 feet, adding a touch of classic elegance to the estate.

On the other hand, Olson's Covered Bridge #2, a newer addition to the property, offers a more accessible view. Located right off Winthrop Road, it marks the beginning of the driveway leading to the compound. This bridge, constructed in 2008, stretches impressively over a 32-foot span. Its timeless beauty captivates visitors year-round. During the winter months, a delightful wreath adorns the bridge, enhancing its picturesque appeal. This bridge has become one of the most iconic and photogenic sites in Deep River, drawing admirers from far and wide.

For those eager to catch a glimpse of these charming covered bridges, it's important to note that they are situated on private property with no available parking. However, there are alternative viewing options. Travelers passing by on Route 80 in Deep River can easily enjoy the sight of the bridges from the road. If you wish to explore further and approach the covered bridges on foot, public parking is conveniently located at the nearby Plattwood Park. The newer bridge, in particular, offers an excellent vantage point for those seeking to capture its timeless allure.
